New Candidate

Jamie Stephens

In 1996, Jamie and his wife, Lauren, relocated to Lopez Island with their family. Jamie quickly became an active volunteer, contributing to numerous community nonprofits dedicated to supporting housing and families. As the San Juan Islands community grew, he saw the need to balance growth with conservation and decided to run for office, serving on the San Juan County Council for 12 years.

During his tenure, he oversaw major updates and approvals of the County’s land use and planning documents. He also took the lead on environmental issues, serving on the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Council, Governor Inslee’s Orcas Task Force, and the Puget Sound Partnership Ecosystem Coordination Board.

Jamie was part of a volunteer group that lobbied for the establishment of the San Juan Islands National Monument, established in 2013, and has served on its Citizen Advisory Board.

Jamie received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and attended executive business classes at the Wharton School.
