Andrew J. Culver, Jr.

1919 – 2009

Andrew “Jack” Culver was born June 2, 1919 in Philadelphia to Andrew and Grace Sunfield Culver. He married Nancy Tenney on July 16, 1945 in Craftsbury, VT. In 1950, they moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where they lived until his retirement. They moved to Orcas Island in 1985 and lived in a house designed by Nancy.

Jack held a bachelor’s degree in botany from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree from the University of Vermont. He worked as a botanist in herbicide and pesticide regulation for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Jack passed away on June 14, 2009. His monetary bequest was a vital contribution to the Preservation Trust’s work.
