We’re very happy to welcome Sierra O’Connell to the Preservation Trust staff as our Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator. Sierra joined us in September after finishing her second summer season as Coordinator/Leader of the San Juan Island Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). In that capacity, she partnered with the Preservation Trust, the County Land Bank, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and other land agencies to organize work projects for YCC crews.
Previously she worked as a naturalist/kayak guide and managed the Seattle branch of an environmental testing equipment company.
Sierra holds a BS degree in Environment and Occupational Health, is certified in wilderness first aid and as a master scuba diver, and is a trained yoga instructor. She finds peace in practicing yoga, free diving, commuting by bike, and searching for birds.
“To me,” she says, “nothing is more rewarding than being immersed in nature while connecting with and working alongside fellow stewards of these abundantly beautiful islands.”
