Vendovi Island’s aging breakwater is home to a vital colony of Pigeon Guillemots—key “indicator species” that represent the health of the Salish Sea. We have partnered with University of Washington researchers to monitor these fascinating seabirds, using automated recording units to study how local marine ecosystems respond to habitat restoration.

The Preservation Trust is seeking to raise $374,000 in private contributions, which will help us fund the estimated $748,000 total cost of repair. Crews will begin restoration work this September.
