On the 10-year anniversary (to the day) of the Preservation Trust’s founding on April 17, 1989, this long stretch of natural coastline on Shaw Island was protected in perpetuity.
This conservation easement, donated by Helen Van de Water, protects over 118 acres of forestland and 3/4 mile of shoreline on the eastern shore of Shaw Island. Under the terms of the conservation easement, no more than four homes may be constructed on the entire parcel. These residences shall be set back from the water in the trees and sited in a manner to preserve as much forest, natural vegetation, and open space as practicable.
