Martin Preserve

Orcas Island

Long-time Orcas Island residents Bob and Shirley Martin donated five acres of woodlands to the Preservation Trust in 1997. The parcel, which is  located at Fircroft off of Enchanted Forest Road, hosts a grove of large, older growth cedar trees typical of many parts of northern Orcas Island.

The Preservation Trust will hold the five-acre parcel as a neighborhood preserve to remain in a totally natural state. The property will have no structures and provides habitat for wildlife, including deer, raccoon, and a variety of birds such as brown creepers, nuthatches, kinglets, vireos, and woodpeckers.

In thanking the Martins for this gift, Judy Gilson Moody (SJPT’s vice president at the time) said, “People who live in and visit the islands love to see wildlife. This land will continue as a local haven for wildlife, like all of our recently acquired neighborhood preserves.”
