Lansdowne Conservation Easement

Orcas Island

Five acres along Cormorant Bay road near Deer Harbor on Orcas island will stay “forever wild”, thanks to a conservation easement donated by the neighbor-owners of the parcel:   Dori Lansdowne, Annette and Gary Piaget, and Tim Jolley.

“When we heard this property was up for sale, we got together to buy the land,” explains Dori.  “I’m a member of the San Juan Preservation Trust, so I know well the work the Trust is doing.  Even though this is a small piece of land, it’s right on the public road, and I felt it was important to protect it.  I’m very happy to have neighbors who feel as I do.”

Remarked Gary Piaget, “I wish more people had this kind of preservation perspective because it’s really the only way to preserve this fantastic environment.  Five acres is not a lot, but it’s a step in the right direction.  I hope this inspires others with small parcels to make donations, too.”

The Cormorant Bay Road property contains lovely rock outcroppings and woodland.  “My six-year old granddaughter found a place she thought was precious.  She loves to come here and wants to keep everything the way it is.  Now we’ll be able to do that.”

As a “forever wild” easement, this property will remain in its pure and natural state forever.
