JB Farm Preserve
Orcas Island
Year Protected: 2005, 2022
Land Protected: 192 acres
Public Benefits: Agricultural lands, forest, wetlands, open space
In 2005, 322 acres of farmland, forest, open space, and wetland habitat in the heart of Orcas Island’s Crow Valley were permanently protected from near-certain subdivision and development with a celebrated conservation easement. Nearly two decades later, the owner of the Crow Valley property, which is known as JB Farm, donated 192 of the farm’s acres to the Preservation Trust.
Ownership will allow us to enhance the land’s considerable conservation values through restoration of wetland habitats and fencing along a creek corridor. We are deeply grateful to the owner for her generosity and devotion to conserving her family’s heritage farm in perpetuity.
