Businger-Kooiman (Sinclair) Conservation Easement

Sinclair Island

Year Protected: 2006

Land Protected: 21 acres

Public Benefits: Forest, wetlands

A 20-acre parcel in the heart of remote Sinclair Island contains mature native forest, diverse understory, and forested wetland habitats.   Owned by Joost Businger and Marianne Kooiman of Guemes Island, this parcel was protected in 2006 with a conservation easement.

The donated conservation easement ensures that the property remains forever undeveloped while permitting limited forestry activities, and is the most recent example of this extraordinary couple’s commitment to conservation in the San Juan Islands.
