As 2009 came to a close, the Runstad family donated a “forever wild” conservation easement this 7-acre jewel near the southern tip of Blakely Island. As a small undeveloped island, the Preservation Trust had long recognized Armitage as a conservation priority. Visible from the Washington State Ferry as it enters Thatcher Pass, this conservation easement restricts all future development on the island. The Runstads are now exploring ways to enhance native wildflower habitat and control invasive plants.
