If you’d like to visit the Ellis Family Preserve (on Shaw Island), you have one more, late summer opportunity.
We’ll be holding an Open Preserve Day, when the gates and doors will be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on September 21.
On Open Preserve Days, Preservation Trust staff and volunteer docents will be available to answer questions and offer guidance as you wander this amazing conservation legacy of Fred and Marilyn Ellis and their family.
Walking tours of the preserve will begin at 11:30 and 1:30.
We will do our best to arrange car pooling from the Shaw ferry dock to the preserve if you let us know what ferry you’re planning to arrive on.
Directions to the preserve: From the Shaw Ferry Landing, follow Blind Bay Rd. as it curves to the right around Blind Bay. Keep going straight until you come to the intersection of Blind Bay Rd. and Hoffman Cove Rd. (2.3 miles from the ferry landing). Turn left and proceed approximately 0.8 miles on Hoffman Cove Rd. Look for the preserve gate and driveway on the right. The driveway curves gently through pasture and woodland. Shortly after you cross a cattle grate, bear right at the Y and look for the signed parking area on the left, just past the big barn.
