The San Juan Preservation Trust works with our local communities and people like you to permanently conserve and care for special places throughout the San Juan Islands.
Thank you to Eliza from the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank for leading an incredible tour of the Salish Seeds Nursery at Red Mill Farm last month.
The nursery is one of the wonderful examples of collaboration between SJPT and the Land Bank and springtime is one of the best times to visit.
The Salish Seeds Project enables restoration of native wildflowers and grasses in the San Juan Islands. Plants and seeds of species native to coastal grasslands, oak savannahs, and rocky meadows are produced at a nursery located at Red Mill Farm on San Juan Island. In a fruitful partnership, the Preservation Trust owns the property and the Land Bank runs the nursery.
From seeing robust wildflowers to learning about creative gardening techniques to being in a beautiful location, visiting the Salish Seeds Nursery is always a joy.
If you missed the open house and are interested in checking out the nursery, the Land Bank is hosting their Third Thursday drop-in volunteer work parties all summer long, which are great ways to see the nursery and learn about recent developments there.

SJPT is looking to hire a Senior Philanthropy Associate, which now comes with an expanded range for where the position can work from!
Come help us connect our supporters to furthering the San Juan Preservation Trust’s mission as our new Senior Philanthropy Associate. The position reports to the Director of Philanthropy and is a critical member of the San Juan Preservation Trust’s fund development team.
Through direct mail, personal outreach, grant writing, and events, the position is integral to expanding our base of support. This position can work from the San Juan Islands of Washington or from the Seattle/Bellevue area.

Vendovi Island sure is a gem, and spring is a prime time to visit this vibrant isle.
The wildflowers were blooming all over the place and our group of wildflower wanderers at our guided walk enjoyed a beautifully sunny afternoon before our boat made it back to the mainland just as a rainstorm was rolling in.
It was nice to think that the weather held out just long enough for us to comfortably enjoy the wildflowers' splendor before they received a nourishing shower later that evening to further fuel their springtime processes. One of many thought-provoking observations from the outing.
All in all another lovely visit to Vendovi!
The Vendovi Island Preserve is open to the public each year from April 1st to September 30th, 10am to 6pm, Thursday through Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).
