Volunteers Galore: A 2024 Recap of Community Conservation

This year, more than 190 dedicated volunteers braved weather extremes across nine islands to contribute over 1,000 hours of their time in support of the San Juan Preservation Trust's mission. Planting parties, weed pulls, species recovery projects, trail maintenance, and office support were just some of the many ways that volunteers uplifted our work in 2024.

To all the people who gave freely of their time, skills, and love for the islands this year, thank you. Community-based conservation work is only possible with you by our side!

Reminder: The North Shore Preserve is Open!

If you haven't already, be sure to visit the recently opened North Shore Preserve on Orcas Island. The San Juan Preservation Trust and San Juan County Conservation Land Bank celebrated the preserve's opening in September. The 58-acre property provides over 1,800 feet of public shoreline in one of the islands’ highest-priority regions for salmon recovery.

Watch the celebratory recap video above and visit the North Shore Preserve for yourself anytime between dawn and dusk.
