It’s summertime, and socializing is easy! On Saturday, July 20, from 1pm–4pm, our annual Summer Social comes to Orcas Island. This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate community-based land conservation work while gaining a sneak peek into the North Shore Preserve before it opens to the public in the fall.

This multimillion-dollar project was a huge endeavor. To pull it off, the Conservation Land Bank and the Preservation Trust joined forces, funds, and complementary strengths, just as they have with many other beloved nature preserves throughout the islands.

The 58-acre property, with its 1,850-foot stretch of shoreline in one of the islands’ highest-priority regions for salmon recovery, will provide much-needed public shoreline access on Orcas Island.

The Conservation Land Bank has been making great progress toward preparing the property for public access—most recently with the stabilization of the beach access trail and the removal of decrepit structures and septic systems. You can see the timeline and overview of their work on the project here.
