Margie and Dan Carper supporting SJPT’s mission
As the striking couple took their seats in the back of the room at SJPT’s 2007 annual meeting, several trustees in attendance took notice. They didn’t waste any time in cajoling Margie and Dan Carper, recent transplants from one island (Manhattan) to another (Orcas), to accept important roles within the organization. Margie joined the Board in 2008 and served for 7 years. In the meantime, Dan, recently retired from Wall Street, agreed to support the Preservation Trust’s Finance Committee as a non-trustee volunteer.
With patience and insight, Dan helped us redesign our investment strategies by articulating priorities, establishing metrics, tracking performance, and guiding us through some significant market challenges. He understood that our donors want to know that our approach to investing is both fundamentally sound and consistent with our values, and that an organization that intends to last for the ages should invest its money accordingly.
Those of us who worked with Dan know of the countless hours and boundless passion he has contributed to our success. We’re thrilled to acknowledge his efforts with this year’s Volunteer of the Year award. –Tim Seifert
