Mud Bay Preserve

Lopez Island

At the far west side of tranquil Mud Bay on Lopez Island sits a small but ecologically valuable parcel of land, now protected in perpetuity thanks to a gift from Donald Andrus and Gretel Shanley.

The property, which spans 300 feet of shoreline, is part of the significant Mud Bay migratory shorebird habitat and tidal feeding grounds for many wildlife species, including river otters.  The Preservation Trust will manage the land as a natural preserve and work to insure further protection of shoreline and uplands of the neighborhood around Mud Bay.
