West Side Road Neighborhood Conservation Easements
San Juan Island
Year(s) Protected: 1993-1998
Land Protected: 5 acres
Public Benefits: Forest, scenic views
A beloved stretch of road to residents and visitors alike, San Juan Island’s West Side Road serves as a gateway to the stunning open views over Haro Strait and the Olympic Mountains. Seven conservation easements, knitted together over several years, have created a two-mile stretch of protected woodlands along the lovely and scenic drive.
By working with a group of property owners, the Preservation Trust has been able to protect its beautiful and wild character. The Preservation Trust continues to be dedicated to working with neighboring property owners who wish to participate voluntarily in further enlarging the protected portion of this scenic road.
