Dean Dougherty

Senior Director of Stewardship

Dean Dougherty, Senior Director of Stewardship, holds a Master's Degree from the University of Washington with a specialization in invasive plant control. He started working full time with the San Juan Preservation Trust in 2002 after escaping from the computer industry. He now lives in Olga with his wife on a small farm and volunteers with the Orcas Island Fire Department.

Dean co-leads our stewardship team with Kathleen. He manages activities on our preserves that contain extensive infrastructure—primarily Vendovi, Red Mill Farm, Ellis, and Waldron. He also leads forest restoration projects, supervises the annual stewardship monitoring process, and directly monitors protected properties on Shaw Island.
