Alice Hurd San Juan Island
Alice grew up in the Chicago area and has always enjoyed being outdoors in open and natural places. In the 1960s she came to the Pacific Northwest to attend Lewis and Clark College, where she majored in biology and education. She then married and spent the next 35 years with her family in Portland.
In 2003 she moved farther northwest, to Friday Harbor, where she has enjoyed the small-town opportunities and community. She was active with the San Juan Island Trails Committee for several years before joining the Board of the Preservation Trust in 2009.
“Every day I am reminded of how happy and fortunate I am to live in such a spectacular setting,” she says. “I’m also grateful to be able to contribute to the sustained health and beauty of the islands through the good work of the San Jan Preservation Trust.”
