Conserve Land

Voluntary conservation of private land plays a critical role in shaping the future of the San Juan Islands. The San Juan Preservation Trust conserves private land in the San Juan Islands in two ways:

1. We own land

In this approach, SJPT purchases land or receives donations of land. Like any other private landowner, we are then responsible for the long-term care of these properties, which we call our “preserves.”

 2. We hold conservation easements on land

A conservation easement is a voluntary, legally binding, and perpetual agreement that we make with a private landowner. The agreement identifies and protects specific conservation values on their property.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of donating either land or a conservation easement to the Preservation Trust, please email our Conservation Director or call 360-378-2461.
