McVay Conservation Easement

Orcas Island

The protection of small parcels of land can sometimes make a surprisingly significant contribution to wildlife habitat in our islands. In 1987, Donald and Sandra McVay donated this conservation easement that protects forestland and 130 feet of shoreline in the relatively heavily-developed Spring Point area of Orcas Island. While only one acre in size, little undeveloped shoreline parcels like this one can provide important refuge areas for wildlife that ventures into populated neighborhoods.

The McVays continue to this day to enhance this parcel with careful stewardship and forest restoration.
