Summer Solstice Forest Immersion “Walk”

June 20, 2020 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us on the Summer Solstice to celebrate growth, life and light with a 2-hour virtual forest immersion “walk”. Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (also referred to as “forest bathing”), this is not a typical virtual experience. Though you will be connected to a group via Zoom, you will spend the majority of the walk not looking at your phone, but taking in the world around you in perhaps a new way. The walk will be guided by local ecologist and certified forest therapy guide, Samantha Martin.

How it works:

1) Find a place in nature where you are comfortable and have adequate cell reception.
2) At the time of the walk, use a Zoom link provided to join the call.
3) Follow the simple instructions given by the guide.
4) Bring some tea along, if you like, to enjoy at the end of the walk.

What is forest therapy?

Forest therapy (or forest bathing) is an old practice with a newly given name. It provides an opportunity for us to slow down and notice what is going on in the natural world around us. It also provides the space for human connection in a time of social distancing.

A walk entails a series of invitations given by a guide. The directions are simple and easy to follow and there are opportunities to share with others throughout the two hours. Though it is called a walk, you will actually spend the majority of the time sitting or standing in one given area. If you are not able or comfortable to leave your house on that day, you can join the walk from inside of your home. Grab your house plants and sit by the window! In a time of great upheaval in our world, a practice like forest therapy can be very beneficial in allowing us to step away from the news and the worry and experience the more than human world through our senses. It is meant to be easy and enjoyable. Register and come give it a try.
