With all that is happening to wildlife near and far, it is encouraging to know that overall, the trumpeter and tundra swan populations continue to grow in the greater Puget Sound region.
We stay informed, thanks to volunteers who help us count swans throughout the San Juan archipelago during a one-day/year snapshot. Documenting their wintering populations provides meaningful data for WDFW to measure this conservation success story.
