The San Juan Preservation Trust works with our local communities and people like you to permanently conserve and care for special places throughout the San Juan Islands.
Crow Valley Creek has been tubed!
Well, at least part of it has been, all as a part of an effort to restore the creek at the JB Farm Preserve in the center of Orcas Island's Crow Valley.
SJPT only recently started managing the stewardship of this place, but we've been hard at work installing hundreds of local species (willows trees and many berry plants, among other species) that should do very well down in the areas surrounding the creek that flows year-round.
All of the plants are all within a buffer zone that will be fenced off to protect them from grazing livestock and browsing deer while the tubes provide them with a bit of extra protection from the elements. In a few years, once the plants are healthy and established enough, we will remove the tubes and they will be free to grow into what will hopefully become an even more robust riparian corridor.
We're really looking forward to seeing what this area becomes and how it helps lay a good foundation for future restoration efforts in similar areas.

There are still a few open spots left on our Vendovi Island Wildflower Walk, happening this upcoming Saturday, April 20!
We invite you to join us as we take in the spring splendor of wildflower blooms on Vendovi Island while learning about the fascinating natural and cultural history of this rare, whole-island preserve.
We will cruise from Skyline Marina in Anacortes to Vendovi Island to enjoy a guided tour of the spring’s bounty of wildflowers. Please be prepared to hike about three miles on flat to gently sloping trails.
Please note that this is one of the few events we charge a fee for, so as to offset the transportation costs of the voyage to Vendovi, one of the more remote outer islands, but it's an incredible place to visit and well worth the journey.

Last chance to register for our volunteer work party out at the Ihiya Biological Preserve on San Juan Island!
We're excited to get out to one of our more lush preserves that is publicly accessible on Wednesday this next week for a bit of trail maintenance and spring tidying up.
