San Juan Preservation Trust

Island Dispatch | December 2015

Year in Review

A Letter from Tim

This summer I taught my 7-year old daughter how to fish. We baited her hook with mussels that grow underneath our community dock, and to our mutual surprise it worked. She danced in excitement with every tiny 4” perch that she pulled up from under that dock. Fish after fish, she apologized to each for the inconvenience before she released it back to the sea.

Then it occurred to me: I was witnessing the moment when my daughter fell in love with the San Juan Islands.

You probably know exactly when you were struck by the magic of this place. And if legacy and traditions are important to you, you also know that the most effective way to invest in the future of these islands is to support the work that the San Juan Preservation Trust is doing today. This work is fueled by you – our membership. We cannot do it without you.

As the highlights in this year-end report suggest, 2015 has been an important year for the San Juan Preservation Trust. With a number of new projects already underway, we are anticipating a record pace in 2016. This is a good time to be a member of the San Juan Preservation Trust.

With gratitude from the islands,

Tim Seifert
Executive Director

Thank You

To Our Generous Contributors

Gifts received October 1, 2014 to November 1, 2015

We appreciate each and every gift we receive from our members. Whether you’ve been with us since our inception in 1979 or you have joined us more recently, our mission to protect the future of these islands relies on your loyalty. With more than 280 properties and 16,000 acres permanently protected on 20 islands (and growing rapidly!), you have helped us to create a network of island conservation that will pass from generation to generation. Forever.

For the first time, we have categorized our members in this special year-end issue of Island Dispatch by the duration of support for the Preservation Trust. This is a new approach for us, and we understand that it will take a few tries before we get it right. If you discover any errors in this list, please accept our apologies and email Bella French at bella@sjpt.org or call 360-378-2461.

Board of Trustees 2014-2015

“Our family has supported the San Juan Preservation Trust for three generations and we expect that to continue among our children and grandchildren. We’ve developed some deep roots in these islands and want to see them remain, as much as possible, as they were when we were kids.”
